Personal Growth – Opportunity Knocks Many Times as Do the Seasons of the Year

Purple Crocus

Do you believe that opportunity knocks only once?  In this article, you will discover that opportunity, any opportunity, even when you think it was only a one time event, will be repeated, in different ways, again and again in the future.

Opportunities never stop coming.  What does happen is that, through indifference or inattention, your perception of  opportunity tends to weaken as well as your courage to quickly act on them.

Opportunity Is a Type of Season that Repeats Itself

To take advantage of the lake, you must swim in summer.  To take advantage of the snow, you must ski in winter.  To walk in the rain, you must stroll in the showers of spring.  However, if you miss out on any of these opportunities, the seasons and their cycles will happen again and again, and it will then be your choice to take advantage of them or not.

“Opportunity” Can Be Defined By that Which You Are Ready to Recognize and Act Upon

Opportunities can be seen only by the willing.  If you are looking for opportunity, more of them will appear.  Opportunity is  only a matter of perception.  Every morning that you wake is an opportunity to start anew.  Opportunity is always knocking at different levels to meet you at the level of development of where you are.

Opportunity is How Life Interacts with You

Life or Universal Love, or however else you would attempt to label “The Divine Organizing Intelligence” can only interact with you through circumstances and coincidences. God answers prayer through opportunity.

Opportunity exists within other opportunities just as the drop of water hits the calm surface of the lake and ripples outward in concentric circles wider and wider until it disappears quietly into the shores.

Free Will Exists Only Because Opportunity Exists

Without free will, opportunity would have no purpose.  Opportunity necessitates the existence of free will, and free will necessitates the existence of opportunity; they are mutually inclusive and inseparable.

Opportunity Is No More than Your Power of Choice

Opportunity is your choice of up or down, right or left, in or out, good or bad, joy or sorrow, poverty or prosperity. Everyone has choice, therefore everyone must have opportunity. Even not-to-choose is still a choice.

Opportunity Knocks All of the Time

It is not true that opportunity knocks only once, but rather, opportunity knocks all of the time, and on many levels, and in infinitely expansive and creative ways, all around us, whether we choose to see them or not.

Personal Development and Personal Growth – The 3 Secrets of How to Discover Exactly What to Do in Order to Fulfill Your Dreams

You have a dream in your heart, and you want to fulfill it. You want to know exactly what to do first in order to begin to make it happen.  In this article, you will discover that following and fulfilling your dream is the most simple and the least complicated process you could imagine.

3 Secrets to Discovering What to Do to Fulfill Your Dreams

Secret 1 – If You Feel that There is Something Simple that You Can Do Right Now – Then Do It!

You don’t need a plan, you only need an intention.  The plan, at some point, comes out of the intention. The intention is primary. The plan is secondary; it is discovered along the way.

If you know right now, no matter how simple it is, that you can and should do something now to begin moving yourself toward your goal, then do it – and see what happens!

The most important thing before doing the obvious initial first steps is that you become okay without having to know the outcome beforehand. This is called faith.  Your faith connects you with Source.  With faith and trust in Source, you can relax, and all good things will open up and become possible to you.

Step 2 – After You Do the First Obvious Thing (Simple or Complex) that You Need to Do – Detach and See What Happens

It is most important that you flow as you do.  What this means is that you do what you feel needs to be done – and see what happens. Depending on what happens, you will know what to do next.  In principle, it is no more complex that this.

You go through door one into a room where you discover, for the first time, the next door through which you must also go.

Then there will be several more rooms and several more doors through which Life will lead you, each door and each successive room will bring you closer and closer, until you reach that final door where you will find the room where the dream is waiting for you.

Secret 3 – Detach from the Need to See Immediate Results of Your Actions – Be Patient

You are in the process of sowing, the moment you follow the inner whispering and intuitions of your heart.  You reap the fruit of your sowing once you learn to become patient and watchful for whenever and however the results may come.

As you take each action in faith, as in the military, you are to carry out your instructions from your Inner Self on a “need-to-know” basis, that is, you will know what you need to know but only when you need to know it.

In the meantime, listen, do, have faith, detach, watch, and reap the rewards of your willingness.  Knowledge is a discovery of your willingness to venture into the unknown.

All the best,

Personal Growth – Detachment is the Secret of the Law of Attraction

Detachment is the secret of the law of attraction.  In this article, I will explain what detachment is and how it is the number one key to making all of your joyful dreams come true.

Ask.  Believe.  Receive.

I was once listening to the spiritual advice of a “success thought leader,” and he said that the secret of success lies in understanding three principles.  He said that these three principles are: Ask.  Believe.  And Receive.

The Real Meaning of “Believing”

Today, during my morning meditation, I got an insight as to the real meaning of “Believe,” and how the right kind of belief creates the magic and miracles that we all seek.  First of all, as I understood and saw in my meditation, we are not talking about egocentric belief, that is, “I believe that I can do this,” or “I believe that I will achieve this or that.”

Trust is the Magic Ingredient of Believing

The type of belief that creates miracles can be translated as “Trust,” but not trust in one’s own limited powers and abilities on a human level, but Trust in Higher Power and Higher Power’s Divine Love to give us what we need when we need it.

Detachment and the Law of Attraction

It was at this point that I understood how and why Detachment creates the impetus for the Law of Attraction.  You cannot detach or stop worrying about the outcome of any desire unless you trust that all will happen for the best at the right time and in the right way according to the will and way of Universal Divine Love.

My Personal “Success Story” with Detachment

I have noticed on a personal level (and I am sure that you can also if you think about it), that every time I have truly “stopped worrying” about an outcome after I have done all I could, the outcome happened almost immediately.

I remember after I obtained my master’s in Psychology, I applied for a Level II Children’s Social Worker’s position.   There were delays of weeks at a time and a long waiting list in order to be processed.  I then remembered what my sage daughter, Luzemily, told me once when she was only 13 years-old, “Dad, if you can learn to live without it, you can definitely have it.”

So, following her advice, I just dropped the concern over being employed as a children’s social worker from my mind.  In fact, instead of worrying and waiting, I decided to seek out other employment in the meantime.

Detachment Opened the Door for Me to Receive

I found an opening to teach Psychology as a permanent tenured position at one of the local community colleges here in Southern California.  I applied for the teacher’s job, thus completely detaching from my concern of being hired as a social worker.

Within 24 hours after having detached and applied for the teacher’s position, I received an email from the County of Los Angeles saying that I was hired immediately and was given a start date of 2 weeks following that email notice.  Coincidence?  Yes, of course.  But what is coincidence after all other than the divine language of God?

Why There Can Be Miracles when You Believe

Belief means miracles, but it is a only that type of belief which implies trust in God.  (Trust and faith are synonymous.)  Trusting implies non-worry.  Non-worry equals detachment.  Thus detachment is the secret to the Law of Attraction – because when you detach, you let go and let God.

Personal Growth – Why “How-To” “Formula-Type” Success Gurus Do You the Most Harm

Are you looking for the latest “how-to” “success-formula” by the most popular guru on the scene today who will lead you through a proven path or system of success and riches?  Forget it.  It ain’t gonna happen.

In this article, I will explain why success formulas cannot and will not ever work, and at the end, I will give you the only true path to success – however you define success for you.

Why “How-To” “Formula-Type” Success-Gurus Do You the Most Harm

1. There Can Be No Pre-Set Success Formula Suitable for Everyone

There are principles of success that everyone must follow, such as persistence, desire, determination, planning, and specialized knowledge.

However, inasmuch as every person’s situation is unique, there can never be a one-size-fits-all formula which follows the exact steps of someone else.

Each person must begin walking his or her chosen path to learn along the way the specific “success steps” or doors of opportunity that he or she must walk through without knowing what comes next.

Your problems and challenges will be different from the problems and challenges of that “success guru.”

2. Following a “Proven” Step-by-Step Formula Reduces Your Chances of Growth

If you are following a proven step-by-step formula, tacitly, you are being told that there are little or no risks, or that you need worry little about obstacles or setbacks.

Embedded in the word “proven” is the fallacious belief that what proved true for someone else’s situation and for someone else’s unique set of circumstances will prove true to you as well.

Just by the factor of time, among many other factors that are personal to you, the success formula of today is likely to be invalid as a success formula 20 years from now.

3. Believing in Ready-Made Success Strategies Creates a Counter-Productive Emotional Dependence on the Success Guru

I have even heard some internet success marketers tell would-be success students in their spiels and sales copy, “Just follow what I did.  I’ve made all of the mistakes for you, so you don’t have to make any of the mistakes I’ve made!”

And what happens when you make mistakes that were not the same mistakes as those of the guru?  What then?  The tendency will be to seek the answers from the “experts” outside of you rather than trusting your “expert within,” that is, your inner voice, your gut, or your own wisdom which you can only find inside of you.

Blindly or obsessively following the words of so-called experts, at some point, will weaken your ability to trust yourself and to ask yourself for answers.

The Only True Path to Success

The only true path to success is to know who you are, what you have, inside and out, and where you feel you must go.

Decide a path, any path, that you have an attraction to and start walking boldly and courageously along that path.  You will learn what you need to do.  You will learn what  you need to avoid.  You will makes mistakes along the way, plenty of them, but if you keep walking in the direction of your dreams, life and the experience of life will guide you and provide for you the steps that you need as you need them according to what stage you be, in the process of your growth.

After you have reached your goal, you may look back and see a series of “success steps” that have led you there, but don’t call it a formula. Know that you and every other traveler along this road we call success must find his or her own way and his or her own formula for success.

Personal Growth and Personal Development – 5 Steps to Problem-Solving

Problem-solving is an art and a science.  Most of all, it is a an attitude and a practical philosophical approach for taking positive action.  In this post, I would like to expound upon 5 reflections that I think will have a great impact on your problem-solving abilities.

5 Key Reflections to Positive Problem-Solving

Reflection #1 – Calm Acceptance of What Is – Is the First Step

“Calm acceptance of what is – is the first step to solving any problem.” What this means is that if you are in denial, which is usually the result of sudden shock or frustration at not having an immediate answer, you are locked into inaction and worry.  Once you accept the problem, you have a problem that can be solved.

Reflection #2 – What’s the Difference Between a Problem and an Opportunity?

“What’s the difference between a problem, a challenge, and an opportunity? — Your choice of label?”  How you define a problem is the problem.

If your wife cheats on you, the type of question that you ask yourself determines how you are labeling the problem.

For example, if you ask, “Why has this happened to me?”  will tacitly provide you with a label of “horrible” or “unbearable,” while asking yourself the question, “What does this mean?” will give you enough emotional detachment to understand what’s going on and how to find a way out of it.

Reflection #3 – Excessive Thinking Before Doing Creates Illusions of Doing

“If you have an excessive habit of ‘thinking about’ doing something, you will create the illusion of having begun it.”  What I am talking about here is the paralysis of analysis.  Mental activity can be like the hamster running inside of the activity wheel. There is apparent motion without forward progression.  Over-analysis is an inactivity trap.  What’s the first four words of analysis?

Reflection #4 – What to Do When You Don’t Know what to Do

“When you don’t know what to do — do only what you can do, and see what happens.  Do more of what works and less of what doesn’t work until your problem is inevitably resolved.”  Do what you can, where you are, with what you have, and let life tell you what’s next.

Reflection #5 – Take Massive Positive Action Immediately

“Massive positive action is the second step to solving any problem.”  You might ask, “If massive positive action is the second step to solving any problem, then what is the first?” Easy.  The first step is making the decision to act.  And how you act is based on where you are  with what you have and what is the most obvious first thing to do.

Yours sincerely,

Personal Development – The 3 Things to Avoid and 3 Things to Do in an Emotional Low Mood

Have you ever found yourself in an emotionally low state, and no matter what you said to yourself or did, you couldn’t seem to immediately shake it off?  Take heart.  We have all been through this, even the most “positive” of us.

In this article, I will explain the 3 things to avoid and the 3 things to do when you find yourself in one of those emotionally rare low moods.

The 3 Things to Avoid during an Emotionally Low State:

Thing to Avoid # 1 – Expecting Your Moods to Turn Off and On at Will

An emotion, i.e, a mood, once in motion rarely stops suddenly as a result of a supreme effort of will.  You may help yourself out of a low mood by becoming active, listening to lively music, singing, or dancing.  But all of this is still a process.  It can be helpful, but there is still no absolute guarantee of an immediate 180° reversal.

Give yourself some time to make a positive shift of gears.

Thing to Avoid # 2 – Making an Important Decision while in a Low Mood

Making an important decision while you are in a low mood is much like making an important decision when you are intoxicated or drunk.  Your perception is different.  Your cognitive and rational acuity is altered and clouded. There is only one sure result of a decision made while in a low mood and that is that you will probably regret it.

There is only only one solution to making an important decision while in a low mood, and that is “don’t.”  Wait.  Avoid regrets.  If the decision is that important, it deserves that you be in a better state of mind.

Thing to Avoid # 3 – Expecting Peak Performance while in a Low Mood

How fast can an Olympic gold medalist run when he or she is tired, hungry, or sleep?  How well can you perform important tasks when you are tired, disoriented, or in an “emotional funk?”

Give yourself some space.  Go slow.

The 3 Things to Do during an Emotionally Low State:

Thing to Do # 1 – Remind Yourself that This Too Shall Pass Emotional low moods are temporary cold winds that blow through every “normal” person’s life. What I mean to say here is that, unless you have been diagnosed as clinically depressed, everyone has those occasional days where even meditating on all of the positive platitudes of life still doesn’t seem to do the trick. It’s okay.

We’ve all been there.  Just as Kahil Gibran said in The Prophet, “And could you keep your heart in wonder at the daily miracles of your life, your pain would not seem less wondrous than your joy.”

Tomorrow is another day.  As my daughter, Luzemily, said at 11-years-old, “You are born again every time you wake up.”

Thing to Do # 2 – Be Patient with Yourself and Not So Demanding I think that even the Buddha had his share of “bummer” days as well.  He probably just accepted and surrendered to the inevitability of the moment and therefore thus unwittingly transmuted his non-peace into peace.

Don’t fight your low mood.  Just be with it, and allow it to be.  It is just passing through.

Thing to Do # 3 – Allow Yourself the Space or Permission to “Not-Do” Most high-achievers or normally “upbeat” individuals have a hard time handling it when the emotional tides are pulling them in a different direction.

You cannot always be a “peak performer.”  Life is cyclical.  There are highs and there are lows.  No one is exempt.  And even though you may be fortunate enough to enjoy the majority of your days “riding the waves,” it is unrealistic and self-defeating to not allow yourself an occasional day of non-achieving.

We all need a day of rest.  Give yourself some space. Rest.  Recharge yourself. Tomorrow will be a better day.

Personal Development – How to Discover and Use the 12 Great Laws of Success

I am sure that if you have been a student of success and personal development for any time you have heard about the Law of Attraction.  But did you know that there are really 12 great laws of success, without the knowledge of, the Law of Attraction becomes and remains null and void.

In this article, I will list and explain for you the 12 Great Laws of Success.

The 12 Great Laws of Success

Law # 1 – The Law of Goal Setting

This is the first great law, which is basically the law of knowing what you want and setting clear mental and written goals.  Once you have set a firm goal, you have asked or made your request to the Universe.

Law # 2 – The Law of Belief

The foundation of success and achievement will be found in the principle of believing.  “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.”  The essence of believing is feeling, and feeling is believing.  There is great power and attractive force in the power of belief.

Law # 3 – The Law of Positive Expectation

Positive attitude and expectancy are one of the great key to manifesting what you want in life.  In life, you truly get what you expect.  If you expect the best, you will get it.  If you expect success, success is yours.

Law # 4 – The Law of Detachment

The Law of Detachment usually goes by another name that we are more familiar with, and that is Faith.  Faith is the ability to not worry over the results but to know that the results are on its way.

Law # 5 – The Law of Attraction

The Law of Attraction is one of the most attractive of all of the 12 laws because it appeals to the genie-in-the-bottle concept.  However, the Law of Attraction is not what is really appears to be.  The Law of Attraction is no more than the Law of Opportunity by another name.

Law # 6 – The Law of Planning

This law tells you to start where you are and to do what you can on the path to the achievement of your goals.  Planning can be mental, but it is even more effective when it is written down in detail.

Law # 7 – The Law of the Willingness to Do Whatever It Takes

The willingness to do whatever is necessary is that which lubricates the mechanics of inspired ideas.

Law # 8 – The Law of Immediate Action

The Universe rewards action.  When you have an inspired ideas, you cannot procrastinate, less you allow the idea to weaken and die.  You must act on it immediately to keep the inspired idea alive.

Law # 9 – The Law of Persistence

Life will give you anything that you desire if you insist on it, if you take every obstacle as a challenge, much like the mindset of the person who enjoys putting together the pieces to solve a jigsaw puzzle. It’s all a game. Truly, it’s all a game.  Have fun with it.

Law # 10 – The Law of Money

Money comes to you based on clearly defined laws.  You must know how to bless money, enjoy money, organize money, save money, invest money, and give money to experience it fully in your life as abundance.

Law 11 – The Law of Gratitude

The Law of Gratitude works to put you in touch with the Creative Source, or the Organizing Intelligence that has given you all that you have.  You employ this great law before and after you have received what you have intended.

Law 12 – The Law of Giving

The Law of Giving means giving to others, in any way available to you, in order to improve the quality of life of those less fortunate or as an expression of love to those whom you care the most.

I go into great detail on each of these laws in my book,“The Secret Revealed – How to Use the 12 Great Laws of Success.”

Personal Development – The 3 Reasons Why Success Formulas Don’t Work–And What to Do Instead

Have you just read the latest get-rich book for success promulgated by currently popular”guru du jour”? In his bestselling book, he lists the step-by-step success formula how he achieved millionaire status, going from rags to riches in only 5 short years.  So now he wants to show you how to do the same by following his same career path.  There is only one problem here. Success formulas don’t work.

There is no one-size-fits-all path to achieving success in any field or endeavor.  As appealing as the “paint-by-number” concept of following someone’s else’s accomplishment may be, this mindset is fraught with hidden mine fields of inevitable pitfalls that were not accounted for in the original “success formula”

In this article, I will explain the 3 reasons why success formulas don’t work, and what to do instead.

The 3 Reasons Why Success Formulas Don’t Work

Reason Number 1 – No Two People Start in the Same Financial Situation

If you want to invest in real estate and make a million dollars in 5 years and you have bad credit, no job, and little capital, you plan and approach would be different from someone who has good credit, a steady job, and enough capital to start.  You would have to create a plan based on your situation.

The main flaw of most success formulas is that they don’t take in consideration any particular or special situation

Reason Number 2 – No Two People Have the Exact Same Skills and Experience

The success formula, which was originally developed and created, was based on the skills and experience of the originator.  Rarely do the “student” and the “teacher” start with the exact same skill and experience-level.

Reason Number 3 – No Two People Have the Same Talent, Discipline, and Determination

To achieve above average income requires above average discipline, determination, and in many cases, above average talent.  Each person needs to do a personal inventory and ascertain if he or she is discipline and determined enough to be willing to do whatever it takes.

In the real world most people are “average” in ambition, desire, and determination.  Were this not the case, above average would not even be possible.

What To Do Instead of Blindly Following Success Formulas

What To Do Instead Number 1 – Assess And Realistically Look At Your Financial Situation

You plan or path to success must be unique to your financial situation and where you are starting. When you read or study someone else’s step-by-step formula, you must ask how do the suggestions taught logically fit within the framework of where you are.  If they appear logical to your situation, then do it, and see what results.  The key thing is to learn by doing which in essence is the process of creating your own custom-made success plan.

What To Do Instead Number 2 – Assess Your Skills and Experience

If there is a skill that you must master, then your first plan is to master that skill.  As you put into practice what you learn, you are accumulating the experience necessary for further success.

What To Do Instead Number 3 – Know What Your Level of Desire and Determination Is

Your continued success is predicated in knowing what you want, why it is important, and the willingness to do whatever it takes no matter what obstacles arise.  If it were as easy as just following a success formula step-by-step, then everyone would be doing it.

Therefore with every success formula, the question to ask is “How does this fit within my personal situation right now?”  And carry out those steps which are most logical for you, and along the way, discover your own steps.

Personal Development – The 3 Biggest Mistakes of Time Management and What to Do Instead

Do you know the 3 biggest mistakes of time management?  In this article, you will understand what these 3 most common mistakes are and what to do instead.

The 3 Biggest Mistakes of Time Management

Mistake Number 1 – You Make a “To-Do” List Based on the First Activities that Come to Mind

Making a to-do list based on the first activities that come to mind operates on the assumption that all things have equal value, and all things that can possibly be done, should be done.  The fact is that in a day of limited time, all things cannot possibly have the same value, and all things most definitely should not be done just because they have been placed on a list.

Mistake Number 2 – You Overload Your To-Do List with Too Many Things

Proponents of time management pride themselves in how much they are able to do in a day.  This a formula for stress and unhappiness.  More done does not equal better done.  Even worse, the people who insist on putting more and more on their daily to-do list also practice the insidious and counterproductive habit of “multi-tasking.”  Machines are meant to multi-task; people are not.

Mistake Number 3 – You Believe Completion of Tasks Equals Accomplishment

When an activity of placed on a list, there is this unspoken mandate to complete it no matter what. Some activities should not have been placed on your list in the first place.  Successful completion of menial and unimportant things, is failure of accomplishment in disguise.

The 3 Things of Time Management to Do Instead

What to Do Instead Number 1 – Make Your To-Do List Based on Your “1 Thing”

The concept of making a to-do list based on your 1 Thing is a very profound concept indeed.  The key to success is to know what is the 1 thing that your life is about and then plan your daily activities based on that.  It’s not really about “Time” Management, for time cannot be “managed.”  It is about Priority Management.  You must always do first things first.

What to Do Instead Number 2 – Simplify Your List to the Top 5 Things You Should Do Today

It has been my experience that to create a to-do list greater that 5 items, is to not focus on that which is most important.  And of that list of 5 things to do, it is important to do the most important activity first based on the importance of completing the advancement toward your 1 Thing.  Most people have a “could-do” list.  I am saying to create a “should-do” list — and make it no more than 5 items.

What to Do Instead Number 3 – Complete Only That Which You Have Ascertained to Be Important

People believe that procrastination is always bad, but procrastination of insignificant and menial activities is the mindset of a successful person.  What goes on your “Priority List” has to be filtered through the question of whether that activity will take you closer or farther away from your 1 Thing.

Personal Growth – How to Use an Amazing Technique to Easily Trigger Creative Solutions During Your Morning Shower

How would you like to learn and amazingly simple and effective technique for triggering creative solutions to problems during your morning shower? What I have to share with you in this article will simple amaze you.

A “Coincidence” I Noticed and Overlooked for Years

For years, I noticed a phenomenon which I am about to describe to you for years, but I never gave it any serious thought until today, when everything became crystal clear to me.

Today I paid real close attention to what I now call the “morning-shower creative-idea response.”

Let me explain to you how this works by explaining to you how I usually generate creative-idea solutions to so many of my problem-challenges.

What I will show you is so simple, easy, and effective for generating the creative ideas to answer almost any problem.  (I am surprised I had never realized this technique earlier.)

Last night, I was trying to think of a way to entice (invite) more subscribers to my online personal development list.

Programming a Dream Solution Before Going to Bed

Before I went to bed, for about 15 minutes, I programmed myself to dream of the solution.  I usually say something like, “Tonight when I dream, I will receive the perfect solution to this problem.”  I said and repeated this idea to myself several times, then I went to bed.

I placed my ball point pen and my small notebook under my pillow to quickly write down any dream solutions upon awakening.

The Trick to Programming a Dream Solution is to Remember the Dream after You Have It

The trick to getting dream solutions, should they come during the night or early in the morning, is to remember them before they fade away.

Sometimes you will recall the dream-solution, and sometimes you won’t. This doesn’t mean that you have “lost” the dream-idea solution.  This only means that your “inner-self” will present this solution to you at a different time and in a different way.

The key is to be ready to write down the idea in its entirety as soon as it comes to you when it is still fresh in your mind.

The Creative Idea “In the Shower Response”

I have noticed that the solution usually comes to me in a sort of “Ah-ha!” epiphany-like moment — while I am showering the morning after I have programmed the dream solution.

The key here is to grab a pad nearby, even if you must get out of the shower soaking-wet and write the inspiration down (in detail) as soon as you receive it.

You will find yourself, to your surprise, writing down detailed and intricate steps to completely solve the previously-believed “insurmountable” obstacle.

It Gets Even Better

Here’s the good news!  The more you practice this, the better you get at it and the easily and faster the solutions flow to you in the morning as you shower.

Try this.  It works!  You’ll be glad you did.

One Final Key

Take immediate action, that is, the same day, to follow through on the inspired idea.  A fresh inspired idea gets “spoiled” and weakens when it is “put away on the shelf” for later.  Take action on it now!
